FINE ARTS LETTER: CHOIR
Each applicant for a combination Fine Arts Letter must meet each of the following general requirements:
1. Complete at least two semesters of fine arts classes
2. Maintain good citizenship in all fine arts classes
3. Maintain a minimum 3.75 GPA in all fine arts classes
4. Maintain a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA
Year 1 Letter Requirements
1. Participate in at least one school choir.
2. Participate in all your choir's concerts.
Complete three of the following five items:
1. Perform a classical vocal piece at region solo/ensemble festival.
2. Attend five high-quality musical performances (concerts or musical theater) and write concert reviews for all five. Four of these must be live performances.
3. Participate in at least one musical performance beyond the ensemble you are a member of (i.e. school musical, state honor choir, All-State choir, community musical theater production, etc.).
4. Complete six months of private voice lessons.
5. Complete a 5-page research project with the help of your faculty advisor in the vocal arts area.
Year 2 Letter Requirements
1. Participate in at least one school choir.
2. Participate in all your choir's concerts.
Complete six of the following seven items:
1. Perform a classical vocal piece and earn a 1- or higher ranking at region solo/ensemble festival.
2. Attend ten high-quality musical performances (concerts or musical theater) and write concert reviews for five of them. Seven of these must be live performances.
Participate in at least two musical performances beyond the ensemble you are a member of (i.e. school musical, state honor choir, All-State choir, community musical theater production, etc.).
3. Complete six months of private voice lessons.
4. Complete a 5-page research project with the help of your faculty advisor in the vocal arts area.
5. Read the following book: “The Inner Game of Music” by Barry Green.
Write a short composition using proper theoretical/part-writing principles.
Year 3 Letter Requirements
1. Participate in at least two school choirs.
2. Participate in all your choirs' concerts.
Complete seven of the following eight items:
1. Performa a classical vocal piece at state solo/ensemble festival.
2. Attend fifteen high-quality musical performances (concerts or musical theater) and write concert reviews for ten of them. Twelve of these must be live performances.
3. Participate in at least three musical performances beyond the ensemble you are a member of (i.e. school musical, state honor choir, All-State choir, community musical theater production, etc.).
4. Complete six months of private voice lessons.
5. Complete a 5-page research project with the help of your faculty advisor in the vocal arts area.
6. Read the following book: “The Mastery of Music: Ten Pathways to True Artistry” by Barry Green
7. Write a short composition using sound theoretical principles.
8. Compile a book of vocal repertoire for future use with the help of your faculty advisor.
